Importance of Assessment

Properly assessing your situation is important for moving toward any goal efficiently.

If you're concerned at all about your timeline for fertility, it's so wise to gather together as much information as possible about your particular situation.

So many times, I’ve learned of women who lost valuable years of fertility, not aware of an issue that they or their partner had that was treatable all along.

I know a couple who went through years of expensive and heartbreaking failed fertility treatments only to discover through advanced sperm testing that the husband was the one who needed treatment.  Once they discovered and treated the issue, they went on to have three children.

For women over about age 35, there’s a tendency for doctors to assume that all fertility problems are due to the woman’s egg quality. It's true that, statistically speaking, much of the time egg quality is the issue. However, there are also many other issues that could be the culprit, and to avoid even looking into these possibilities, I believe is a mistake.

Early diagnosis can save you time, money and heartache. Time is one of our most precious commodities when facing fertility challenges as we get older.

This module will give you knowledge so that you can collaborate with your providers to get an accurate diagnosis. This self-guided program is not meant to replace medical attention. Rather it's designed to empower you with knowledge so that you know what kinds of consultation to seek and what kinds of questions to ask.

This assessment module is also going to guide you through a holistic mind-body assessment of many factors that could contribute to your egg quality and other aspects of your fertility.

I’m an advocate for collecting all data that might be relevant and then looking at the whole picture to decide how to move forward.

Don’t be afraid of information. Have courage. Seeing what’s there can help you know how to best help yourself.

Overview of the lessons in this module:

  • Cycle charting – Here I’ll guide you through how to track your cycle through taking your temperature and testing for ovulation. There is a lot you can learn from this process and I’ll show you how to do it in a way that is relatively easy and very inexpensive.
  • Medical assessment – Here you’ll find guidance on what tests you might want to have done through medical providers.
  • Sperm testing – It’s important not to assume everything is just fine on the male half of the equation. You’ll find links to resources to help you sort through what kinds of testing might be worth doing to ensure sperm health.
  • Whole person assessment – Here we pull together all the data you’ve gathered from the other areas and add in a whole lot of assessment that is relevant from a mind-body perspective, from lifestyle factors to emotional functioning.
  • Interpreting your assessments– Finally, I will show you how to go through all your assessments to highlight where you want to focus your attention for egg nurturing and overall fertility.

In Module 6 you’ll learn how to integrate this assessment information into your custom program.

Video Workshop Series

I now have a video workshop series to accompany this whole assessment process. Check your course portal for the Integrative Fertility Assessment Workshop Series.

The first workshop is a review of core principles from Module 2. The remaining workshops are designed to add detail to the assessment content in this module. Watch them as you go through these sections.

Be patient

There is so much you can learn from this process, but it will take time to gather all the information together. So continue with your basic egg nurturing program while you take your time in collecting all this assessment information.

Keep moving forward

You don’t need to wait until everything is done before you move forward beyond this assessment module. Once you have a majority of your assessment done, you can move ahead into the next modules and keep coming back to complete your assessments as you find time. Update your program with new information you gather as you go.
